RECENT DEATHS

TOM JORDAN RIP

The death took place at his home peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Friday 15 May of Tom Jordan, Killane, Ballon and formerly Milltown, Kilbride. He was aged 79.

He married Joan Shore from Leighlinbridge in 1972, and the couple had four children.

Tom spent some time selling insurance for Irish Life before committing to farming full time. He was a leader with Ballon Foróige. Many people have fond memories of the trips to Clara Lara and the part they played in the restoration of the old graveyard. He was interested in politics and was an active member of the Fine Gael party. He loved to travel, was a keen gardener, growing a wide range of fruit and vegetables in his tunnel and vegetable patch. He also gave a first job to many teenagers picking raspberries. He loved his job as a farmer. He had a great sense of place and was grounded in the land. As a young man Tom was involved in Macra Na Feirme and featured on several very successful Ballon debating and public speaking teams

Tom’s remains reposed at his home before being removed to Saint Peter and Paul’s Church, Ballon for Requiem Mass on Sunday 17 May followed by burial in Ballon cemetery.

Tom will be greatly missed by his wife Joan, daughters Geraldine, Clare and Siobhán, son Thomas, grandchildren Robert, Fiach, Tara, Norah, Alice and Charlotte, sister Margaret, son-in-law Jimmy, Geraldine’s partner Bernard, Clare’s partner Don, Thomas’s partner Laura, sisters-in-law Mary and Kate, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Annie and brothers Peader, Bernard and Richard (in infancy).
